5 Best Cafes in Dehradun (2026): Local Picks for Views, Coffee & Dates

Best cafes in Dehradun guide with a coffee cup and hills

Ask anyone in Doon for a cafe suggestion and you’ll get ten different answers, half of them places that shut down two years ago. Dehradun’s cafe scene changes fast, especially along Rajpur Road, so we kept this list short on purpose: five cafes that have stayed popular for years, each good at something specific.

Whether you want a view of the hills, a quiet corner to work from, or a place for a first date that isn’t a mall food court, one of these will fit.

1. AMA Cafe, Rajpur Road

If there’s one cafe that almost every Dehradun local has been to at least once, it’s AMA Cafe on Rajpur Road. It’s run by the same family behind the well-known Kalsang restaurants, and it has that warm, unhurried feel that makes it easy to sit for two hours over one coffee.

What to order: thukpa on a cold day, Thai and continental dishes, and their cheesecake if you have room for dessert.

Go for: a slow weekend brunch with friends or family.

2. Café De Piccolo, Rajpur

Café De Piccolo sits up in the Rajpur area, where the city starts to give way to the hills. The space is designed beautifully, almost like a film set, and the view is a big part of why people come. The menu leans European, with Italian dishes and an all-day breakfast.

What to order: waffles, a big breakfast plate, or one of their Italian mains.

Go for: a daytime date or a slow breakfast with a view. Go before sunset if you want the best of the scenery.

3. Eddie’s Patisserie, Chakrata Road

Not everything good in Dehradun is on Rajpur Road. Eddie’s, in Yamuna Colony off Chakrata Road, is a small, easygoing patisserie and a favourite on that side of the city. It’s known for its cakes, pastries and brownies, and it has a spacious outdoor seating area that’s lovely on a winter afternoon.

What to order: a brownie or a slice of cake with coffee. There are vegan options too.

Go for: a budget coffee catch-up, or picking up a birthday cake. Some listings say it’s closed on Tuesdays, so check before you head out.

4. First Gear Café, Mussoorie Road

First Gear Café on Mussoorie Road, Dehradun
First Gear Café, on the road up to Mussoorie.

First Gear Café is on the Mussoorie road near Shiv Mandir, so it works perfectly as a stop on the way up to the hills or on the way back down. The terrace looks out over the valley, fairy lights come on in the evening, and there’s often live music.

What to order: their shakes, Chinese snacks and something hot as the evening cools down.

Go for: a sunset date or an evening out with friends. Weekends get busy, so go early to get a terrace table. More in our First Gear Café guide.

5. Y Café & Restaurant, Subhash Road

Tucked inside the old Hotel White House on Subhash Road, Y Café feels like stepping into an older Dehradun. There’s antique decor, shelves of books and a calm vibe that makes it a favourite for long conversations. The food leans Italian, and it’s more affordable than the setting suggests.

What to order: lasagna or a pasta, with their blueberry smoothie.

Go for: a quiet weekday lunch, or when you want a cafe that doesn’t feel like every other cafe.

Tips before you go

  • Check timings on Google Maps before you leave. Cafes here change hours, take weekly offs and sometimes close for renovation.
  • Weekends on Rajpur Road get crowded after 5 pm. Go early or book a table if the cafe takes reservations.
  • Parking is tight at most Rajpur Road cafes. If you’re going in a group, share a cab.
  • Carry a light jacket for terrace seating from October to March. Evenings near the hills get cold quickly.
