Dhanaulti is where Dehradun goes when Mussoorie feels too crowded. It’s a small hill town about 24 to 26 km beyond Mussoorie on the Chamba road, sitting at around 2,286 metres among deodar and pine forest. There’s no Mall Road here, no ropeway queue, just quiet forest, two eco parks and, in winter, some of the most reliable snow near Dehradun.

How to reach Dhanaulti
The route goes Dehradun – Mussoorie – Buranshkhanda – Dhanaulti. From Dehradun, drive up to Mussoorie, then take the Chamba road past Library end and keep going.
- By car or bike: the best option. The road beyond Mussoorie is narrower but scenic, with forest most of the way.
- By taxi: easy to hire from Dehradun or Mussoorie for a day trip.
- By bus: buses run from Mussoorie towards Chamba and stop at Dhanaulti, but they’re infrequent. A taxi is more practical.

Things to do in Dhanaulti
Eco Park
Dhanaulti’s main attraction is its Eco Park, run by the forest department and split into two sections, Amber and Dhara. Both have walking trails through tall deodar trees, viewpoints and picnic spots. It’s an easy walk that suits kids and older family members too. There’s a small entry fee, commonly listed at around ₹50, and the park is usually open from about 10 am to 5 pm.
Adventure activities
Dhanaulti has adventure parks and camps offering things like zip-lining, rope bridges, rock climbing and rappelling. Prices and availability vary by operator and season, so ask at the counter and check safety gear before you try anything.
Surkanda Devi Temple

Forest walks and camping
The best part of Dhanaulti is simply walking in the forest. Many camps around town offer tents with bonfires, especially from March to June and in autumn.
Snowfall in Dhanaulti
Dhanaulti is one of the most reliable places near Dehradun for snow. It usually gets snow between late December and February, and often more than Mussoorie. In recent years it got snow in December 2024 and again in January 2026.
